2023 Fall Equinox

Celebrate the Cycle of Life,

The Fall Equinox is the second of the three major harvest festivals. The Celtic name for it is Mabon: the season of storing food and preserving nature’s bounty for the coming winter months. This year it will be on September 22nd just as the sun enters Libra, the sign of the balancing scales. The term Equinox refers to this balance of day and night. Fall is the time of plants shedding their seeds, going underground until new plants rise up in the Spring.

The most important aspect of this time of year in Ancient Greece, was the honoring of Demeter, the holy goddess of the grain. For several millennia her story inspired the famous Eleusinian Mysteries.

Eyes to the sky this week to see the super-rare Perigee Blue Moon

We haven’t seen a Full Moon like this one in over 27 years, and we won’t see another one until the 22nd century!

2023 has a “bonus” Full Moon and it rises on the night of August 30-31.

In any given calendar year, there are typically 12 Full Moons — one occurring in each month. Every once in awhile, though, due to the exact timing of when the Full Moons occur, we get an extra one. That means we have a total of 13 Full Moons for the year, one during each of 11 months, and one month with two.

Since we only have 12 popular names for the Full Moons, the extra one goes nameless. Thus we call it a Blue Moon.

PLOD THROUGH IT!  STAY THE COURSE!!

                                 By Sami MERLYN, DD

HEY NOW, as Al Manning would say, illigitimi non carborundum, which was his pet phony Latin Phrase for “Don’t let the bastards grind you down.” As I write this, VENUS is Retrograde… and the good news is we are plodding through it and since it went Retro July 22nd, we are making our way through these challenging times! Venus Retro only happens every year and a half, and since the goddess of LOVE affects all life, for her to go on vacation for six weeks is challenging.  The tendency is for folks to be dissatisfied, emotional and want a change.  The admonition is to “stay the course” and not make major changes.

Spiritual Science & ESP LAB     SPRING   2023

Mercury turned Retrograde yesterday on April 21st and until May 14th, 2023. Remember the 5 P’s of Mercury Retrograde: Planning, Patience, Perseverance, Pruning and Plod through it.

My personal Mercury Retro Survival Plan:

1) don’t panic.

2) say less not more.

3) stay in your spiritual center.

4) be patient with all communications.

5) prune all unnecessary activity – especially travel plans and new projects.

6) avoid new purchases – especially computers, automobiles, and electronic devices. 7) know that this aspect has a beginning, a middle, and an end… keep plodding through it, with PERSEVERANCE.

8) don’t quit your job, change your friends, or your location – save this for better times.

PERSEVERANCE FURTHERS

As many of us get through the challenges of extreme winter weather, Al Manning would say, “this too shall pass.” It is important to stay positive and forward thinking. Al knew that Life is Change.  Now, for those of us in the North American continent, Spring is just around the corner.  Let us welcome the pending Spring into our hearts and minds and then, before you know it, Spring with all its glory of renewal and rebirth returns.

Recently I received a copy of the book, THE I-CHING, which is also known as THE BOOK OF CHANGES.  Some fifty years or so ago, I became exposed to its teachings, which offer oracles and ethical teachings since the dawn of time.

Spring Newsletter

Connect with plants during Spring Equinox,

This year in the Northern Hemisphere, March 20th is the Spring Equinox when day and night will be equal in length at the equator.  Also known as Ostara or Eostre (the origin of the name Easter) light and dark will be perfectly balanced. It is also the New Year for Persians as well as the Earth Honoring spiritual traditions that follow the ancient ways.

In these ancient traditions the Vernal Equinox is considered the time of Green Fire. It refers not only to sap rising, but also to the electrical energy pulsing through the growing plants. This is not a metaphor. My electrician husband told me that the green fire is literally electrical, just like our nervous systems.

Lunar New Year 2023: The Year of the Rabbit

What Is the Lunar New Year?

Lunar New Year (also known as Chinese New Year) happens this year on Sunday, January 22, 2023. Why does the Lunar New Year start at a different time each year? How is this important holiday celebrated? What does the Year of the Rabbit symbolize? Learn all about this holiday!

When Is Lunar New Year?

Lunar New Year begins on the date (in East Asia) of the second new Moon after the winter solstice, which always takes place in late December. This means that the first day of the Lunar New Year can occur anytime between January 21 and February 20.

In 2023, this new Moon occurs in China on Sunday, January 22, marking the start of a new lunar year.

Winter is here!   Mercury turned Direct  January 18th 2023                                    New Moon is on Jan 21, 2023

Mercury is now Direct.  Moon is new on January 21st.  Chinese New Year is pending… Spring is on the way… It is Time to begin again!!

Al Manning, founder of the ESP LAB, used to say, “What’s new?  Me!  I am always new and exciting.”  This dovetails with an affirmation from Dr. Al Fann, the actor who ran the Institute for Higher Mind—which was down the street from the ESP Lab in Hollywood when I lived there in the late 1970’s.  Al Fann would say, “I am unique, wonderful and extremely exciting!” Point is, that these positive attitudes can lead you to a better day and a more successful life.

We made it through another year! Huzzah!! Mercury is Retro on the Full Moon as we start the New Year!

By Sami MERLYN, DD

Winter is here!   Mercury turned Retrograde Dec 29th, 2022                                  FULL MOON in Cancer, Jan 06, 2023

I am happy to say that despite whatever challenges, the ESP LAB and I made it through the past year! Huzzah! Huzzah.  It was a year of the tiger which some say is a vicious year.  2023 is the year of the Water Rabbit, which starts on the Chinese New Moon of January 22nd, 2023 (Chinese New Year), and ending on February 9th, 2024 (Chinese New Year’s Eve). The softer sign of the bunny is a symbol of peace, prosperity, and longevity… along with fertility.  Let it be a better year for all of us.  2023 is predicted to be a year of hope.

What Is Mercury Retrograde and What Does It Mean for You?

Mercury enters retrograde motion starting on December 28, 2022, and lasting into the new year! According to the age-old practice of astrology, we are all influenced by the effect of Mercury in retrograde. What exactly does it mean for each of us, though? Read on to find out.

What Is “Mercury Retrograde”?

Three times a year, the planet Mercury appears to travel backward across the sky. We refer to these periods as times when Mercury is in apparent retrograde motion, or simply ”Mercury retrograde.” To those who practice astrology, these times in particular were traditionally associated with confusion, delay, and frustration.
