Yuletide Blessings my friends,

This letter brings my heartfelt wishes for a truly joyous holiday season and an abundant New Year. In the Northern Hemisphere, December 21^st is the longest night. The Winter Solstice is universally honored with ceremonies using some form of light in traditions all over the world. People have burned bonfires, torches, candles, oil lamps, and today electric light bulbs are strung around our homes. My mother used to tell me as a child that these traditions reassured us that the days of more light would be returning.

What creates the feelings of joy around Yule/Christmas/Hanukah and any other celebrations for the Solstice? Maybe it began with wanting to spread cheer for the people who needed to feel comforted.

Each meditation practice typically requires a different mental skill. It is often extremely difficult for a beginner to sit for hours and think of nothing or to have an “empty mind.” In general, the easiest way to begin meditating is by focusing on the breath (see concentration meditation above).

The following meditation exercise is an excellent introduction to meditation techniques.

Sit comfortably.
Close your eyes.
Do not attempt to control your breath in any way. Just breathe naturally.
Focus your attention on the breath. Observe how your body moves with each breath. Pay attention to the movement of your body as you breathe, especially your chest, rib cage, shoulders, and belly, as you inhale and exhale. Whenever your mind wanders, gently return your attention back to your breath.

The whole of the Bible contains much Spirit Contact and many other forms of ESP. We might start with John the Baptist who was predicted by an angel of the Lord who struck his father dumb until the actual birth and the name John was given to him. John went about the land preaching of the coming and baptizing people before Jesus appeared. And of course the 3 “wise men” were Zoroastrian Astrologers who had predicted the birth of a new Avatar. Then there was the birth in 4 BC (the Romans always messed with the calendar, but that’s another story), with all sorts of angelic appearances. Angel is just another name for a good Spirit. Lots of us modern people commune with Spirits every day.
